How do I know if my child is ready for a sleeping bag?
A sleeping bag is ideal for babies who have outgrown the swaddling phase and are sleeping with their arms out—usually around 3 months old. This transition is often marked by milestones such as rolling and a reduction or disappearance of the startle reflex.
At this stage, your baby is ready to move from a swaddle to a sleeping bag. Loose blankets are not safe for babies at this age, so a TOG-rated wearable blanket (such as a sleeping bag) is essential for keeping them safe and comfortable while they sleep.
If your baby is younger or rolling but doesn’t like swaddling, our Cocoon Swaddle Bag is a great option, as it allows for arms-out sleeping with the shoulder poppers open.
Once your baby reaches around 2-4 years old, they will typically transition to a regular blanket when moving to a big bed.
For babies transitioning from swaddling, we recommend our Sleeping Bag. This organic cotton and elastane bag is perfect for arms-out sleepers, offering the softness and stretch of a T-shirt with a slim, swaddle-like fit, making it ideal for your baby’s first sleeping bag after the swaddling stage.
