How do I use the Butterfly Cardi for transitioning out of a swaddle?
To help your baby transition from swaddling to arms-out sleeping safely and comfortably, we recommend a gradual 10-day process. Begin this transition when your baby first shows signs of wanting to roll, not after they’ve started rolling, for their safety.
DAY 1-3
Dress your baby in the Butterfly Cardi over their Sleeping Bag or Cocoon Swaddle Bag, with their arms securely contained within the fold-over arm pockets. Use the press studs to adjust the fit around your baby’s torso: if they have a strong startle reflex, begin with a firmer fit; if they have a low startle reflex, you can opt for a looser fit. Keep the Cardi on for all naps and nighttime sleeps.
DAY 4-7
After your baby becomes familiar with the Butterfly Cardi, you can begin to gently release one arm from the fold-over pocket during naps and sleep.
DAY 8-9
Now, release the second arm from the remaining pocket, keeping both arms out during all sleeps.
DAY 10
By Day 10, your baby should be comfortably sleeping arms-out! You can remove the Butterfly Cardi altogether, and your little one will be ready for full, arms-free sleep. Hooray!
